Apart from the two schools in Lionel (the Old School finally closing in the early 1970s), there are also primary schools in the villages of Cross and Airdhantuim. 
The small school in the village of Skigersta closed in the 1960s and Galson School closed during the 1970s.  Pupils from these schools were transferred to Lionel, which currently provides primary and secondary education up to Year 2.
